Behind all the of the temples either the religious sentiments of the people attached or these temples enshrine any particular God or Goddess. But Bharat Mata Mandir is Unique in this sense. It is the only temple in varanasi which is dedicated to Mother India. It is a personification of India as a mother goddess. It is located in the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth campus. This temple was built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupta and Shri Durga Prasad Khatri and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936.This temple represents the human manifestation of Indian nation. It houses a relief map of India carved on white marble brought from Makrana. The map that is kept here depicts the undivided India as the temple was built before partition. The map is absolutely perfect in scale as the plains mountains and oceans are marked with great precision in terms of longitude and latitude .This temple is ventured by all Indians irrespective of cast and creed and color.
The other unique feature of this temple is its unique design. It stands on five different pillars and each pillar symbolizes earth, water, fire, water and Sky. Which constitutes the five basic elements of creation. All these pillars finally converge at the top signifying that the world of five elements has ultimately to merge with Supreme. The temple opens at 9.30 A.M in the morning and closes at 8.00 P.M in the evening.
