Varanasi is situated on the banks of the river Ganges It is also known as kashi or Benaras is a holy place for Hindus. Sarnath is at a distance of about 10 kms from this holy city.. This fabled place has remains dating 3rd century B.c which tells the story of its glorious past. Sarnath is famous Budhist pilgrimage where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon to his disciples .Lord Budha had visited this place looking for his five disciples who abandoned him at Rajgir while they deviated from his viewpoint.

Dhamekha Stupa : The stupa is the most impressive structure in Sarnath. It signifies “The seat of holy Budha” This is the spot where Buddha delivered his first sermon. Built around 500AD the size of the Stupa is 31.3 meter in height and 28.3 meter in diameter
Chaukhandi Stupa : The Choukhandi Stupa is believed to be the place where the Buddha met his five disciples. Todar Mal added an Octagonal tower to the structure
Asokan Pillar : The great Indian emperor, Ashoka, visited this place after he adopts Buddhism .A smooth radiant stone pillar, better known as the Ashoka Pillar, commemorates Ashoka's visit of Sarnath. This pillar is the national emblem of India and the wheel down the base adorns the Indian National Flag
The Digambar Jain temple : Varanasi is not only famous for Buddhist temples and monasteries but it is also a sacred place for Digambra Jains. Besides a statue of Lord Mahavira there is a museum related to the life of jain Tirthankas Shreyanshnath.is a major attraction among jains.
