Sankat Mochan Temple is among the most visited temples of the holy city Varanasi .The temple is located at Sankat Mochan Gali in the southern part of Varanasi near the Banaras Hindu University. It is one of the sacred and most visited temple of varanasi. This temple is dedicated to Hindu God Hanuman. The word “Sankat Moachan” means the eradicator of all worries and tensions. The famous saint Tulsi Das the author of famous epic Ramayana founded the Sankat Mochan Temple. According to the Hindu Mythology one who visits this temple regularly, his wishes get fulfilled. Lord Hanuman brings good luck to the devotee.
Bi-Weekly ceremonies are held every Tuesdays and Saturdays. Thousands of devotees queue up in front of snkat Mochan temple to offer prayers to Lord Hanuman. Devotees also visit this temple to protect themselves from the planet Saturn. According to Vedic Astrology those who have ill placed Saturn in their horoscope must visit this temple to get remedy. People put “Sindoor” on the statue and offer Ladoo and marigold flower garland to the statue. Outside the temple there are many shops where vendors sell pendants, incense, flowers rings etc.
Festival
On the auspicious day of “Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi” special prayers at dawn are held. Annual festival is held on “Chaitra -Full” moon day which is also known as “Hanuman Jayanti “.The main attraction of this festival is a procession that is taken out on the streets of varanasi. This festival too attracts plenty of visitors across the country.
