Tonsured heads, chanting of mantras and hymns, cremation grounds This is Varanasi - the holiest of Indian cities. The city is also known as Kashi or the "city of light", the abode of Lord Shiva where, according to Hindu religion, the first rays of light fell after creation. Attracting millions of pilgrims across the globe the city lives and breaths the ancient Hindu religion and culture.The city has countless number of temples located at the ghats of Ganga adding to the religious value of the holy river. There are various ancient and new temples which worth a visit The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Sankat Mochan Temple,Tulsi Manas Temple, New Vishwanath Temple are among the most famous temples of the city.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple : This temple is also known as “Golden Temple “.It is dedicated to Lord Shiva.The Jyotirlinga of Shiva is enshrined in the Kashi Vishwanath temple. More than the Ghats and even the Ganga, the Shivalinga installed in the temple remains the devotional focus of Varanasi. New Kashi Vishwanath Temple :- This temple is located in the premises of Banaras Hindu University. It is also known as Birla Temple as it is built by Birlas and planned by Pandi Madan Mohan Malviya . This temple is also dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Bharat Mata Temple : This is the only temple in Varanasi which is not dedicated to any God. It is dedicated to Mother India. It is located in the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth campus. The temple was built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936.

Durga Temple : This temple is commonly called as Monkey Temple. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and is built in 18th Century. This temple was constructed by a Bengali Maharani in Nagara Style .Thousands of devotees visit this temple during the Navratras and other auspicious occasions.

Sankat Mochan Temple : Besides the Assi river on the southern part of Varanasi, near the Banaras Hindu University is situated a famous temple name Sankat Mochan Temple. It is dedicated to the Hindu God, Hanuman. The word "Sankat Mochan" means the God who helps in removing sufferings .Tulsidas, the author of the famous Hindu epic Ramayna, founded the Sankat Mochan temple.

Tulsi Manas Temple : Tulsi Manas Temple is located near the Durga Temple. This temple is constructed in 1964 by a varanasi family. This temple is dedicated to Lord Ram. It is believed that this temple is built at the same place where Tulsi Das wrote the famous Hindu Epic Ramayana.

Kal Bhairav Temple : It is an ancient temple of Varanasi near the Head Post Office, VishesharGanj. God KalBhairav is believed as "Kotwal of Varanasi", and it is believed that no one can stay in Kashi with out his permission.

Annapurna Temple : This temple is situated near the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Devi Annapurna is believed as the Godess of Fooding”.
